Ingredients

1 C packed brown sugar
3/4 C shortening
1/4 C molasses
1 egg
2.25 C white flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
Some granulated sugar.

Note:

I've been eating these cookies since I was a kid. They are SOOOOOO good and I love them so much. If I loved them any more, you'd hear wedding bells. ENJOY!


  • Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg in one bowl.
  • Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt in another.
  • Mix all together.
  • Cover and stick in the fridge for at least an hour. Mum always does like, three or four, but do what you like.
  • Heat oven to 375.
  • Shape dough into round balls, squish slightly and dunk one side into granulated sugar.
  • Put them on a cookie tray, sugar side up.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove immediately from cookie sheet.
